Video: Woman throws drink before being assaulted in Kroger checkout

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Newly released video shows a fight start between two customers in line at a Memphis Kroger on Sunday.

Memphis Police Department is searching for the man seen in the video. The woman, Megan Wilson, in the video said the man attacked her in the checkout line at the Poplar Plaza Kroger when he got frustrated that she was paying with coupons and slowing up the line.

In the video, you can see the woman throw liquid on the man, but she said that was an accident.

"I grab my drink, and go figure--the little stand that the card swiper thing is on--when I turn around, my hand hits it, my drink spills, and it hits him," Wilson said.

Kroger customers who saw the video, disagree with Wilson's description of what happened.

"She picks up a drink and throws it at this guy--that's outrageous," Jackie Cash said.

"She provoked the actual physical altercation here," Shawn Springfield said.

Everyone who saw the video said it shows there is enough blame to go around, but they all said there's no reason for a conflict like this to get violent.

"Both of them are adults, and I think they should have handled it differently," Adrienne Roddy said.

Wilson said the man was verbally harassing her while she paid for her groceries. She said he then grabbed the back of her head and pushed it into a grocery cart.

Other than some bumps, bruises, and a small scratch on her head, Wilson was not injured.

"I never in my life expected something like this to happen to me in the middle of a grocery store," Wilson said.

A security guard said the man left the Kroger in a blue Ford F-150.

MPD said it is still trying to identify the man in the video. If you know who it is, you are asked to call MPD at 901-545-2677(COPS).

While no charges have been filed yet, MPD said both people in the video could potentially face criminal charges for what they did.

Kroger said it was saddened by this unfortunate incident.
