SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - School may be out, but districts across the city are desperately trying to fill their teacher rosters before the school year begins.
So if you're thinking about teaching for the first time or wanting to return to the classroom, Teach901 wants you.
Memphis is hiring educators," declared City Leadership Recruiting Director Luke Pruett.
Pruett says their Teach901 program is now recruiting for more than 40 school organizations and networks.
"We work with Shelby County Schools, The Achievement School District, stand-alone charter schools," he explained.
They don't want to start the fall school year with unstaffed classrooms.
Each year, schools lose teachers to retirement, transfers, and other factors. "Also, just the reality that there are four major sectors in the country: Accounting, Engineering, Nursing, and Education where there's going to be a massive need for educators," elaborated Pruett.
There are openings for all teaching positions, from math to English, from Kindergarten to high school.
They're looking for college graduates who can pass the Praxis teacher licensure test, but there are some alternative licensure possibilities if you're Arkansas or Mississippi-based
"We have programs like Relay School of Education," said Pruett. "If you're able to get hired at a school, you can get alternative licensure through those or another state licensure application."
He says Memphis is one of the highest-paying school districts in the country.
