Orpheum students represent Memphis in NYC competition

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Two students represented Memphis in a theatrical competition in New York City, after winning Orpheum's 2018 High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Riley Thad Young, a Hernando High school student and Amelia Beckham, an Evangelical Christian School student, competed in the 10th annual Jimmy Awards--a national high school musical theatre awards.

The awards were hosted by Tony Award winner Laura Benanti at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City.

Out of 80 students, Young was chosen as a top 8 finalists and performed a solo titled, "Memphis lives in Me" from the musical Memphis.

Beckham was also one of six students to receive a special scholarship recognition.

Congrats to both of them for such wonderful accomplishments.
