MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Animal Services was honored for saving dozens of animals lives.
MAS was one of five shelters recognized at the Best Friends National Conference last week.
In 2016, the shelter's live release rate was around 50 percent. It has now increased to 90 percent.
"I'm proud of the hard work the MAS team does on a daily basis, and this award is proof that others across the country see it, too. When I ran for mayor, I promised to fix what's broken in City government – and this is another area in which we've kept that promise," Mayor Jim Strickland said.
The shelter received a $3,000 grant to continue their life saving efforts.
