MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - You won't need a map to find the place being honored during next year's Memphis in May Festival.
It's a decades-long tradition of bringing thousands of people together and millions of dollars to the City of Memphis.
Memphis in May has celebrated 38 countries over the years–until now.
Next year, Memphis in May will break away from tradition and celebrate local music and barbecue in the Bluff City.
The celebration will also coincide with Memphis' 200th birthday.
"It's about time that they celebrate Memphis," said Phil Trenary, President and CEO of Greater Memphis Chamber.
Memphis in May and Greater Memphis Chamber said these changes are good for visitors and Memphians.
"Each year we have about 11 million visitors from around the globe that come to Memphis," said Robert Griffin, Director of Marketing for Memphis in May.
Normally, Memphis in May brings in people internationally and that's shown to have a positive impact on tourism.
Griffin said he isn't worried those numbers dropping next year. He actually expects them to keep growing.
"It's a great new reason to come find out even more about the city that they wanted to explore anyway," Griffin said.
Whether it's just a visit or you're a Memphian at heart, Memphis in May 2019 is about celebrating all the good this city has.
"It's a time for us to shine," Trenary said. "We have all the right pieces in place so it's a great time to be a Memphian."
Memphis in May will also have a new event next year called "Celebrate Memphis."
We don't have too many details about it just yet, but organizers said it will be an event honoring the past while celebrating the future.
The Beale Street Music Festival is set for May 3-5, while The World Championship Barbeque Cooking Contest will be May 15-18.
