Tonight, WMCTV.com will be only only local television website in Memphis to bring you live, streaming coverage of the 2006 New Orleans Mayoral Election Debate, at 8:00pm.
In an unprecedented effort to reach the New Orleans residents that have scattered across Louisiana and to other states, several NBC affiliates, both in Louisiana and major evacuation locations, will participate by broadcasting the debate on a delayed basis or streaming the debate on their station websites.
MSNBC's Chris Matthews and WDSU anchor Norman Robinson will jointly moderate the one-hour debate. Seven candidates will participate in the event, including business lawyer Virginia Boulet (D), Rob Couhig (R), also a lawyer and managing partner of Couhig Investments, Ron Forman (D), president and CEO of Audubon Nature Institute, current Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D), current Mayor Ray Nagin (D), Reverend Tom Watson (D), who is currently pastor of the Watson Memorial Teaching Ministries, and Peggy Wilson (R), a former president of the New Orleans City Council.
Other NBC affiliate websites with involvement in the debate include KPLC in Lake Charles, Louisiana, which will replay the debate on Monday and again on April 22nd, election day, KTVE in Monroe, Louisiana, which will replay the debate, KALB in Alexandria, Louisiana, which will link to the streaming video on msnbc.com through their Website, www.kalb.com, WBTR in Baton Rouge, an independent station, which will run the debate live, and KTAL in Shreveport, Louisiana, which will run the debate on April 22, election day.
In addition, WXIA in Atlanta, Georgia will offer a live stream of the debate on www.11alive.com , WMC in Memphis, Louisiana will stream the debate on www.wmctv.com, KPRC in Houston will provide a link on its Website, www.clickonhouston.com to msnbc.com's stream of the debate, and WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi will link to the debate on www.wlbt.com.
