West Says NBA Draft is Just the Beginning

Now that the dust is settling from the Memphis Grizzlies NBA Draft Hoopla, there's one player who's been somewhat overlooked in all the wheeling and dealing.

Memphis Final piece of a Draft Night Bonanza is Florida State Big Man Alexander Johnson.

A 6'9" 250-pound banger whom the Grizzlies called back twice in the Pre-Draft Workouts.

Johnson brings Bulk to a somewhat light lineup.

West cautions this is just the first step of the off-season.

When the Free Agent and Trade door opens next month...more moves could be made....

Think Stromile Swift is back in Memphis to stay after a 1-year layover in Houston?

West will be on the phone ready to do more wheeling and dealing before training camp opens in the fall.

Jamming and Slamming is just about all that's on the mind of the Grizzlies prize in this draft, Uconn star Rudy Gay.

Blessed with explosive athletic talent, Gay says he spent the majority of his individual team workouts showing teams he has the fire it takes to be a prime time NBA player.

Critics say Gay has a tendency to disappear at times.

He says he's working to change that notion.

Look for the Grizzlies to soon have a mini-camp for their first and second year players..

Then it's off to the L.A. Summer League next month for the first taste of life as a pro athlete.
